RES CON (Residential Construction Forum) 2023 is the Annual Conference, Builders’ Forum, Trade Show, and Gala Awards Banquet of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association New Brunswick.

 

RES CON brings industry professionals together to network, discuss trends, and receive valuable and pertinent information on issues relevant to their business.

 

This year's 2-day Trade Show and Builders' Forum features renowned presenters who are experts in their field on topics such as high-performance home construction and wall assemblies, integrated project design, carbon emissions calculations, costing tools, and more! We'll also have other speakers whose presentations will focus on energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.

 

Our participants come from many sectors of the industry and include builders, renovators, developers, engineers, building supply dealers, building officials, energy advisors, HVAC installers, suppliers, and other industry professionals. Cost Benefit Analysis Workshop

9:00am - 10:00am

This workshop is designed to help builders and renovators better understand the technologies and costs of building to higher levels of energy performance. The workshop will help select performance targets, define a case study home to work on, illustrate the range of technology combinations and associated costs, and explain how to choose the optimum solution while exploring options from a cost and technology perspective. The workshop is also designed for participants to trial Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan's) costing tool, in real-time, to have a working understanding of the tool as well as the output results.

Integrated Design Process (IDP) Session

10:00am - 11:00am

This session is designed to emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration between builders, renovators, trades, industry experts, manufacturers, and other stakeholders from the beginning of the design process. IDP encourages discussion on the importance of various high-performance issues and establishes a consensus on the matters of concern. IDP takes a holistic approach to the construction process; costing, design of systems, energy engineering and simulations, material selection, building/renovating constraints, and provides objective information on the aspect of performance. IDP enables clear communication of performance targets, and strategies required to achieve these targets and allows for continuous iteration through feedback loops.

Material Carbon Emissions Estimator (MCE²) Session

11:00am - 12:00pm

A downloadable tool and user guide designed to support the home building and renovation industries in making informed material choices to reduce up-front carbon emissions. MCE2 allows users to quantify the cumulative carbon footprint of their home and renovation projects with a comprehensive set of calculations and provides insights for reduction opportunities.

This session is a must-attend for builders, developers, building officials, manufactured homes, energy advisors and designers. Take a deep, hands-on, dive into Net Zero technology focusing on the building envelope.



Our CHBA Qualified Net Zero Builder – Brad McLaughlin of MCL Construction and Lauren Lipka – Qualified CHBA Net Zero Energy Advisor and Trainer for the CHBA-NB Centre for Residential Construction Excellence will demonstrate several wall assemblies for high-performance Net Zero homes. Richard LeBlanc of Riko Passive Homes will join the presenters, providing a demonstration of the wall assembly used in his recent high-performance build. This session will explore methods of preventing moisture penetration into the building envelope, construction of air-tight building envelopes for high-performance homes, air barrier installation for airtight results and display various assemblies to meet current and future Building Codes that will lead the industry to achieve our Net Zero emissions goals by 2050.

Dave Lawrence | EMCEE

Born and raised in London, Ontario, Dave began his career as a stand-up comedian, signing on with Yuk Yuk's Canada and touring with the likes of Howie Mandel, Tom Green, Pauly Shore, Gerry Dee & Norm MacDonald. Transitioning into radio almost 10 years ago, Dave quickly became the #1 morning show host in Fredericton and one of the most in-demand emcees on the east coast and Ontario. During COVID, Dave wrote a children's book about his autistic son called "Noah Bear" that became a best seller on Amazon and was picked up by Chapters.

George Street | Musical Talent

George Street is a party band based out of Halifax that will keep you dancing, clapping and singing all night long. Doug Hawco is from St. John's, Newfoundland and grew up performing in pubs on George Street in St. John's, Newfoundland before moving to Halifax and touring the A circuit venues throughout Atlantic Canada. Eric Hardiman is from Halifax, Nova Scotia and performed in various bands throughout Canada and the USA while receiving a music degree in Hollywood, California. Together this Atlantic duo will bring a kitchen party to our event, their multi-music genre style will bring songs by Great Big Sea to Michael Jackson.
